Estvez’s Season Ends with Surgery | Kansas City Royals News

Carlos Estvez’s Royals career is officially over after shoulder surgery ends his season — and likely his time with the team. Once a dominant closer who led the league in saves and earned All-Star honors, he’s now sidelined after just one-third of an inning pitched this year, surrendering six earned runs. His struggles began in spring training with velocity and command drops, then spiraled with a line drive injury and rotator cuff strain. With a club option for next year unlikely to be exercised due to his injury history and cost, Estvez’s promising tenure with Kansas City may be coming to a close.
