Assurance of Salvation The subjective realization by a person that he/she is a child of God is a ministry of the Spirit to every obedient believer (Rom. 6:15-22; 8:16; 1 John 1:6, 8; 2:3, 9-10, 15-23; 3:9, 17, 24; 4:7, 13, 20; 5:1, 10).This requires self-examination and testing (2 Cor. 13:5). BUT God’s character: rich in mercy (v4) because of his love (v4) by his grace (v5,7) 3. BUT God’s work: made us alive (v5) he raised us up, seated us (v6) as a gift (v8) saved us (v5, 8,) recreated us in Christ (v10) prepared works for us (v10) 4. Clarity on our condition and claims: dead in trespasses (v5) having done nothing (v8,9) claiming no credit (v9) “You then see that we are wholly excluded from the righteousness of works, and must therefore flee to Christ for righteousness, for in us there can be none, and to know this is especially necessary; for we shall never be clothed with the righteousness of Christ except we first know assuredly that we have no righteousness of our own.”   John Calvin Commentary on Romans C. BECAUSE GOD ALONE SAVES, ETERNAL SECURITY IS A RESLT OF HIS FAITHFULNESS!  NOT OURS! John 5:24(ESV) — 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life John 10:27–30 (ESV) — 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” John 6:37 (ESV) — 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. Jude 24–25 (ESV) — 24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Matthew 7:21–23 (ESV) — 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
