Welcome back to the WXAV podcast and we are doing a little crossover series with the same Xavier jazz combo and right now I am joined by Ethan. How are you? I'm doing good. Thank you for having me on Yeah, man.

No problem right up to bat for people that don't know what you play in jazz combo for jazz combo I am the bass player you sound like you got a little more instruments on your belt if you want to you want to show them off right now I do I have experienced playing around seven new ten instruments most of which I did in high school I played alto saxophone clarinet flute ukulele acoustic electric guitar. They had just to run through a few there Yeah, just whole bunch. Yeah, and how long have you been playing bass? I've been playing bass now almost as long as I've been playing guitar But in the jazz band I've only been playing for about three years now Mm-hmm, so three years in jazz and four or five like years throughout high school and even till now very cool How was the experience in the studio for you dude the experience was amazing?

I've never really been in a professional studio like that So just seeing all the equipment the way they were able to set up my bass and you know how everything worked out there It was great Do you feel like the chemistry of the band was kind of changed a bit by being in there versus something like McGuire Hall? The chemistry of the band for me. I always have a great time playing you know with the whole band for me It was more of a relaxed feeling like we were all able to just play together for me I play a lot by ear so being able to look at everybody's expressions while they're playing and bouncing off of you know What everybody else is doing it seemed like everybody was kind of doing that so it was a really relaxed atmosphere Everybody you know did well, and it was a great experience for me to be in that studio like that for the first time Yeah, that's kind of funny because a few people before you were kind of saying how the studio felt like the stakes were like way much higher But I find it really interesting that you're telling me that without like kind of the live setting it actually felt more relaxed Which I found out I found really interesting dude I feel like in jazz and you know a music in general rhythm section and stuff like that is like really underrated So just if you would like to tell me a bit of your how do you feel kind of contributing such a backbone to the pieces of all your friends? I guess for me.

I've always enjoyed the rhythm section although I did play alto saxophone for so long now being in that rhythm section role I like it a lot more actually than playing alto because I love kind of being that driving force along with the drums and piano It's it's a lot to kind of keep the band like together and also you know I don't think I've really taken too many solos so far that I've been on bass But definitely I enjoy being able to keep like a walk in line and interact a lot with how the solos are going So for me, that's probably why I had such a relaxed time in the studio is you know I'm always in that relaxed kind of mood when I'm playing because it's just a constant motion and I'm always messing and we're messing with the time And we're also messing with the dynamics and how the tone of the song goes So it's a fun thing for me. Yeah, all right. I think that'll kind of wrap it up for you Ethan Thank you for joining me and you know keep listening to these WXAD podcast. All right.

Well, dude. Thank you again for having me
