Ethics in the Enlightenment

from CultureCast · host Daniel Dal Monte

In this episode, I discuss how ethics changed in the Enlightenment. The classical basis in ethics, in the Platonic intelligible domain, and the Aristotelian teleology, was lost in the secular naturalism of the Enlightenment. So too was the faith-based focus on the afterlife. I discuss the threat of subjectivism in ethics, in which it is based on individual desires without any objective standard!
