My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes delight in my ways. — Proverbs 23:26The call of Proverbs 23:26 is the central invitation of the gospel — not for outward conformity or religious performance but for the heart itself, the center of our affections, thoughts, and will. God does not ask for a portion of our lives; He asks for the whole self, and He asks with the tenderness of a Father who knows that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. The astonishing thing is that what God commands, He also gives: He asks for our heart and then gives us a new one, softening what was stone and filling what was empty with His own love. The only adequate response to such a request is not reluctant compliance but the joyful surrender of everything we are to the One who gave everything for us.
