Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 81 1 Sing aloud to God our strength; * shout for joy to the God of Jacob. 2 Raise a song; strike the tambourine, * the sweet sounding lyre with the harp. 3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, * at the full moon, on the day of our feast. 4 For it is a statute for Israel, * an ordinance of the God of Jacob. 5 He established it as a testimony in Joseph when he went throughout the land of Egypt, * where I heard a language I did not know. 6 “I relieved his shoulder of the burden; * his hands were freed from the basket. 7 In distress you called, and I rescued you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; * I tested you at the waters of Meribah. 8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you. * O Israel, if you would but listen to me. 9 There shall be no strange god among you; * you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
