Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 39 1 I said, “I will guard my ways, * that I may not sin with my tongue; 1 I will guard my mouth as with a muzzle, * while the wicked are in my sight.” 2 I was mute and silent; I refrained even from good; * and my sorrow was stirred. 3 My heart grew hot within me; while I mused, the fire kindled; * then I spoke with my tongue: 4 “O LORD, make me to know my end and what is the measure of my days; * that I may know what I lack. 5 Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, * and my age is nothing in your sight. 6 Surely all mankind is but a mere breath. * Surely man walks about like a shadow. 6 Surely they busy themselves in vain; * he heaps up wealth and does not know whose it finally will be. 7 And now, O Lord, for what do I wait?
