Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 72 1 Give the king your justice, O God; * your righteousness to the royal son; 2 that he may judge your people with righteousness, * and your poor with justice. 3 May the mountains yield prosperity for the people, * and the little hills bring righteousness. 4 He shall defend the cause of the poor among the people, * he will deliver the children of the poor, and crush the oppressor- 5 they shall fear you while the sun and moon endure, * from generation to generation. 6 May he come down like rain falling on the mown grass, * like showers that water the earth. 7 In his days may the righteous flourish, * and peace abound, till the moon be no more. 8 May he have dominion from sea to sea, * and from the River to the ends of the earth. 9 The desert tribes shall bow before him, * and his enemies shall lick the dust.
