Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. You are worthy at all times to be praised by joyful voices, O Son of God, Giver of Life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.   Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 79 1  O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; * they have laid Jerusalem in ruins. 2  They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, * the flesh of your faithful to the beasts of the earth. 3  They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, * and there was no one to bury them. 4  We have become a reproach to our neighbors, * mocked and derided by those around us. 5  How long, O LORD? Will you be angry forever? * Will your jealousy burn like fire? 6  Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not know you, * and on the kingdoms that do not call upon your name. 7  For they have devoured Jacob * and laid waste his dwelling place. 8  Do not remember against us our former iniquities; * let your compassion come quickly to meet us, for we are brought very low. 9  Help us, O God of our salvation, * for the glory of your name; 9  deliver us, and atone for our sins, * for your name's sake. 10  Why should the nations say, * “Where is their God?” 10  Before our eyes, make it known among the nations * that you avenge the outpoured blood of your servants. 11  Let the groaning of the prisoner come before you; * according to your great power, preserve those condemned to die. 12  Return sevenfold into the lap of our neighbors * the taunts with which they have taunted you, O Lord. 13  So we, your people and the sheep of your pasture, will give you thanks forever; * from generation to generation we will proclaim your praise. † Composite   After the Psalm, the Officiant begins Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
