Michael Thorne Jarrett   Today's Readings: Psalm 121Deuteronomy 20Mark 10:46-11:26 Confession The confession is said privately. The audio file begins after confession. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. A brief silence is kept Grant your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. You are worthy at all times to be praised by joyful voices, O Son of God, Giver of Life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.   Psalter The appointed Psalm is read together Psalm 121 1  I lift up my eyes to the mountains. * From where is my help to come? 2  My help comes from the LORD, * the maker of heaven and earth. 3  He will not let your foot be moved; * he who watches over you will not slumber. 4  Behold, he who watches over Israel * will neither slumber nor sleep. 5  The LORD watches over you; * the LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6  The sun shall not strike you by day, * nor the moon by night. 7  The LORD will keep you from all evil; * he will watch over your life. 8  The LORD will watch over your going out and your coming in * from this time forth, and forevermore. † Composite   After the Psalm, the Officiant begins Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.   The Lessons A reading of the appointed lessons Deuteronomy 20 20 “When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you shall not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. 2 And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people 3 and shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, 4 for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.’ 5 Then the officers shall speak to the people, saying, ‘Is there any man who has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it.
