Evening — September 22 — Matthew 26:39

Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.” — Matthew 26:39The Father's will was never to spare His Son the cup of wrath but to secure salvation through it, so Jesus' prayer teaches us that true obedience is not the absence of struggle but the surrender of the will to God's greater purpose in the middle of that struggle. Because Christ bowed beneath the full weight of divine wrath, the cup of God's anger is now completely empty for everyone who trusts in Him.
