Everett Perry Johnson: Artistry Shaped by Diversity and Determination

Many moons ago, I sat across from a man whose energy was so infectious it was impossible not to be drawn in. That man was Everett Perry Johnson, a New York-born choreographer and property manager with a story to tell – a story of art, identity, and resilience. Together, we explored the vibrant Dallas art scene and the unique challenges he faced as a bi-racial, gay man. Through his journey, he has remained committed to his creative passion and his mission to amplify the voices of those unable to share their own experiences.Everett's approach to storytelling is truly unique. Whether by choreographing a dance or managing a property, he ensures that every narrative he touches resonates with authenticity and depth. His struggles have shaped him, but they haven’t defined him. His experience at the renowned Ailey School of Dance and his current venture, DTX Management, reveals an artist who is not afraid to redefine himself constantly. What struck me most was his determination to empower his students of color to persevere and shine amidst adversity. Our conversation took an exciting turn when we got to discuss his project, Lovers Ball Drag Brunch. This immersive event combines food, drink, and performance, bringing people together over shared experiences. Meeting Everett was a reminder of the power of art, community, and resilience. His story is a testament to the fact that even in the face of adversity, there's always room for creativity, connection, and courage.
