Every Rom Com 18: Dirty Dancing

This week on Every Rom Com, Jen and Sophia begin the summer romance series with perhaps the greatest summer love story of all time - “Dirty Dancing.” We’ll talk about the making of the film and the locations you can still visit today. We’ll dig deep on the cast and crew, including a fantastic female screenwriter who wrote from her own experience. We’ll give some background on the culture of Jewish summer resorts portrayed in the movie. And of course we’ll get personal with our own memories of seeing the film as kids, summer romances, dance, and more, as we discuss this all-time classic starring Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze. 0:00-5:52 Introduction, Have you ever had a summer romance? 5:52-19:00 Trailer, Basic Info, Interesting Facts, General Opinion “The Movies That Made Us” Season 1 Netflix https://www.netflix.com/title/80990849 19:00-32:03 Cast & Crew In-Depth 32:03-41:28 Opening Credits; Car Scene; The 1960’s Setting; Kellerman’s, The Borscht Belt, and The Golden Age of the Catskills; Filming Locations: Mountain Lake Lodge and Lake Lure, North Carolina Information on The Borscht Belt/The Golden Age of the Catskills https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/dirty-dancing-to-mrs-maisel-these-catskills-resorts-are-having-a-renaissance https://www.recordonline.com/article/20090731/NEWS/907289987 “Dirty Dancing” Filming Locations https://www.mtnlakelodge.com/special-pkg https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/dirty-dancing-filming-locations 41:28-54:03 Themes: Dance, Class, Coming of Age; Johnny and Penny’s First Dance; Baby Visits the Staff Quarters 54:03-1:07:01 The Wig Scene, The Gazebo Scene, Neil Tries to Woo Baby, Helping Penny 1:07:01-1:25:28 Learning to Dance, Dancing at The Sheldrake, Driving Back to Kellerman’s, The Abortion and Abortion Facts More Making of Information https://www.eonline.com/news/874313/dirty-dancing-turns-30-writer-talks-johnny-baby-s-future-a-possible-sequel-why-patrick-swayze-was-her-first-only-choice?utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=imdb_topstories Abortion Before & After Roe vs. Wade
