Everyday Servants

from Shelbyville Community Church · host Pastor Brad Davis

For most of us, when we think about the Christmas Story, chickens aren’t the first thing we think about. But what if chickens provide a powerful illustration of how NOT to behave? Take any ten chickens. Any ten. Put them in a pen together and spread out a little feed. In a matter of minutes, those chickens will have established something called a pecking order. If you are higher on the pecking order, then things like food, water, and space will come easy. But if you are nearer the bottom of the pecking order, then you get last dibs on those things. The problem is that pecking orders aren’t just common to chickens. Human beings have them too. And yet our Jesus has commanded us to live free of pecking orders, to put the needs of others AHEAD of our own. Join us this weekend as we tease out the rhythm of service that forms the foundation for the birth of Jesus. As we gaze at the example of our Savior, it should form a deep desire within each of us to become like Him. He came to serve, not to be served! Make it a priority to join the conversation.
