Everyday Worship
from Shelbyville Community Church · host Pastor Brad Davis
You were made for worship. It is who you are. Worship is part of your DNA and one of the primary motivations of your life. Every single one of us worships someone or something, even if you don’t consider yourself religious or spiritual. Worship happens anytime we take a good thing God has given us and make it the ultimate thing. It could be a relationship, romance, sex, money, power, control, a child, a marriage, happiness, it could be anything. The problem is that none of those things are reliable. Worship sex, money, or control, and you will always need more. Worship a relationship or a person, and they will disappoint you, betray you, or let you down. Worship happiness, and it will always elude you. Think about it: The people who are often the most unhappy are those who think the most about their happiness! This is why it becomes so important to worship that which can sustain us, both in this life and the next. In the case of the magi, it is clear they had one thing on their minds as they made their journey to Jesus: Worship. They cancelled at least three months of their life for the privilege to bow down before Him. One of the fascinating facts of the Christmas story is that almost no one was actually home that first Christmas. The angels traveled from their home to announce the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary left their home in Nazareth to go to Bethlehem, and then you have the travelers we will be talking about this weekend. Like them, each of us makes a journey to Jesus. And at the end of that journey, what is left is worship.
