"Everything Falls Apart" (Genesis 3:1-21)

This semester, we are looking at the big storyline of redemption that is laid out for us in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. In this week's message from Genesis 3, we look at the how sin and alienation from God entered into God's good creation. Theologians have called this "the fall." When we look at the Genesis account, we see that the Fall is not a fall FROM grace. It’s actually a fall from perfection. It's a fall into grace. Grace means "undeserved or unearned favor." It's exactly what sinners need, what failures need. When we look at God's dealing with humanity from Genesis 3 onward, we see that all of God’s relating to us is from a place of grace. “Christianity frames matters altogether differently [than other philosophies]. There is a fault line between good and evil, but it does not run between aspects of creation, between human faculties or between different social groups. It runs down the middle them all. It is not that the material is inherently corrupt and the immaterial pure, but both of them are created things subject to the fall; it is not this the appetite is inherently corrupt and reason inherently pure, but the same line runs down the middle of our appetites and down the middle of our reason.” —Chris Watkin “I am a democrat because I believe in the Fall of Man.
