Everything 'Heretic' Got Right and Incorrect About Latter-day Saints

from Scripture Central: LDS Come Follow Me & Church History · host SC

Heretic is a fictional horror film featuring two sister missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sometimes known as the Mormon Church or the LDS Church. They fight to survive a deadly game of cat and mouse as the villain Mr. Reed (played by Hugh Grant) traps them in his house and strings them along a horrific path of religious deconstruction. Today I’m going to fact-check nearly every religious thing in this film, since the movie spends considerable time treating the doctrine, practices, and history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We’re going to evaluate its discussion of polygamy, magic underwear, birth control, reincarnation, and a lot more. At the end, I’ll give my take and overall review on how well I think the film Heretic did representing my own faith. CONTENT NOTE: Scripture Central illuminates and defends divine truth. Our efforts to shine light on darkness necessitated our engagement with content which is not virtuous, lovely, nor of good report, so that our viewers may be informed and able to address concerns and criticisms which arise from friends, colleagues or other associates. We regret any distress this causes our loyal audience.
