Jay Powell's Jackson Hole appearance and speech wasn't really about rate cuts. It was a sales job trying to sell you and as much of the world as possible on the Fed itself. Just making the pitch, however, means implicitly admitting the US economy just leapt out of the frying pan and into the fire.
