On our last Disney trip, we decided to finally make our way over to the “third theme park,” Universal’s water park, Volcano Bay. So this week, we go over the history of Volcano Bay (which interestingly enough predates Universal Studios), the lore behind the park, our experience, the deal with the Tapu Tapus, some tips and tricks on having the best experience, and what our final opinions are about the park including whether or not we’ll go back! (Spoiler alert, you’re so cool, we can’t keep a secret from you. We most certainly will!) Tune in and enjoy! Submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
