But that’s not all. Sammy revealed something even more surreal—his new song Encore, Thank You, Goodnight was inspired by a dream he had where he wrote a song with Eddie Van Halen himself. “I had a friggin’ dream and wrote a song with Eddie!” Sammy shared. “That’s as real as it gets.” He describes the track as a final chapter, a spiritual jam session that gave him the closure he needed. “The ‘what if’ is gone now. I feel good. Healthy, even.” The track features none other than Joe Satriani, who Sammy says completely captured Eddie’s essence. “The intro… I don’t even try to figure out what Joe’s doing,” Hagar laughed. “I ain’t torturing myself with that.” One person not involved? Alex Van Halen. “Al and I… we’ve got a problem,” Hagar admitted. “You’d have to ask him what it is. I don’t know. But I knew he probably wouldn’t be part of it.” Still, when asked if he regrets his time in Van Halen, Sammy didn’t hesitate: “Oh, hell no! The only regret I have is that we didn’t make more music. Eddie and I were just getting started. We were capable of so much more.” And as a bonus, Hagar revealed he’ll be part of Black Sabbath’s farewell show, originally planning to sing No More Tears until Ozzy Osbourne himself asked to sing Hagar’s Rock Candy!
