Exodus 22–26

from The Safe Space Hosted by Esther Parham

Welcome to The Safe Space! Where we last left off in the Bible, the Lord had given Moses commandments and laws for the Israelites at Mount Sinai. Now, God continues teaching His people how to live in obedience, treat one another with justice, and worship Him as He prepares to dwell among them. The Lord gives Moses laws concerning theft, property damage, and restitution, requiring the people to take responsibility for their actions. He commands them not to mistreat foreigners, widows, or orphans, and to show compassion toward the poor. They must honor God, give their offerings, and live as His holy people. God also commands them to uphold justice, speak truthfully, help those in need, observe the Sabbath, and celebrate the appointed festivals. He promises to send an angel ahead of them to guide and protect them on their journey to the Promised Land, warning them not to worship other gods. Moses then tells the Israelites everything the Lord has commanded, and the people promise to obey. He writes down God’s instructions, builds an altar, and offers sacrifices. Moses reads the Book of the Covenant aloud, and the people reaffirm their commitment. He then sprinkles the blood of the covenant over them, confirming their agreement with the Lord. Moses, Aaron, Aaron’s sons, and seventy elders ascend the mountain and witness God’s presence. Later, Moses is called farther up Mount Sinai to receive the stone tablets. The glory of the Lord settles upon the mountain, and Moses remains there for forty days and forty nights. During this time, God instructs Moses to collect willing offerings of gold, silver, bronze, fine fabrics, wood, oil, spices, and precious stones. These materials will be used to build a sanctuary so the Lord may dwell among His people. God describes the Ark of the Covenant, which will hold the stone tablets, along with its gold-covered poles and cherubim above the atonement cover. He also gives instructions for a table to hold the bread of the Presence and a golden lampstand with seven lamps. The Lord then explains how the Tabernacle must be constructed, describing its embroidered curtains, protective coverings, wooden frames, and supporting bars. He commands Moses to make a veil separating the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place, where the Ark of the Covenant will be placed. The table must stand on the north side, and the golden lampstand on the south side, with a curtain covering the entrance. Every detail must follow the pattern God revealed on the mountain. The Lord is preparing a sacred dwelling place among the Israelites, establishing how they are to worship Him and approach His holy presence. As these instructions come to an end, Moses remains on Mount Sinai, receiving God’s direction for the people He has chosen and the sanctuary they will build in His honor. Verse of the day: Proverbs 1:8-9 “My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.” Action of the day: List each of your family members and write down at least one way each of them are a gift to you.
