Exodus: Honoring Wealth
from Redeemer Brooklyn · host Redeemer Brooklyn
11.23.2025 | In this week’s sermon by David Lee, we explore the biblical perspective on money, possessions, and the true meaning of wealth. Moving beyond the eighth commandment’s instruction to "not steal," we look at the positive vision God has for our relationship with our resources. Key Points: Money and wealth are not inherently evil; they are tools meant to bless creation and cultivate value. We often fall into the trap of viewing our resources through either a power mentality (taking what we want) or a scarcity mentality (fearing we will not have enough). Wealth has the potential to become a rival god ("Mammon") that promises security, joy, and comfort, ultimately competing with our devotion to God. True generosity is a spiritual discipline that breaks the power of Mammon in our lives, helping us transition from an "ownership" mindset to a "stewardship" mindset. Because Jesus became poor for our sake, we are free to practice radical generosity, trusting in God's provision rather than our own accumulation. Common Questions Answered: Why does the Bible talk about money so much? How can I break free from the addictive nature of wealth and consumerism? Is it wrong to desire financial success? What is the spiritual purpose of the tithe and generous giving? How can I know if money has become a rival god in my life?
