Exodus: No Other Gods
from Redeemer Brooklyn · host Redeemer Brooklyn
10.05.25 | In this week’s sermon by David Lee, we explore the first of the Ten Commandments and the nature of God's law. Rather than viewing the law as a set of arbitrary, restrictive rules, we learn that it is a reflection of God’s own nature and a map for human flourishing. Key points covered: The law is rooted in grace, given to a people already redeemed by God. True obedience is an outflow of love for God, not a means to earn favor. Idolatry is defined as the disordering of our loves, where good things become ultimate things. We cannot fulfill the law perfectly on our own, pointing us to our need for the grace found in Jesus Christ. Questions addressed: How do we discover what we are actually worshipping in our daily lives? Why does God give us commandments if we inevitably fail to keep them? What is the relationship between grace and the moral law?
