Exodus: You Can Trust Me

Exodus 34:10-28 I can’t make my life work on my own! But as I fully trust God, I find help to experience the freedom and joy of the life I was created to live. What is a covenant? Two becoming one: “What is mine is yours and what is yours is mine.” Yahweh promises: Mercy, Forgiveness, Grace - v. 7 Miraculous Provision & Access to His Power - v. 10 Presence & Guidance: Will drive out the inhabitants of the Land He promised - v.11 God’s People promise: To be trust Yahweh implicitly, without reservation or rival – v. 14 In their context, trusting God will involve... v. 12, 15 – no treaties. v. 13-17 – tear down pagan altars and idols. v. 16 – no intermarrying outside the tribe. v. 19-20 – give God the first of everything you have. v. 23-24 - 3 times a year all the men leave camp to appear for God. v. 25-26 – no yeast; no cooking a goat in its mother’s milk. Then, 3 feasts that are past, present, & future reminders that Yahweh can be trusted. Past: Feast of Unleavened Bread – v. 18 Present: Sabbath – v. 21 Future: Festival of Harvest - v.22 All of these terms of the covenant speak to an exclusive relationship of trust. v. 28 – God writes this covenant in stone! What does this have to do with us? “Apart from Me, you can do nothing.” – John 15:5 “When I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:10 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on our own understanding.” - Proverbs 3:5 Let’s ask ourselves… What is the evidence, or lack thereof, that I trust God? Where am I clinging to “By myself” or “I got this”? Where might I be “going along to get along”? What is keeping me from fully trusting God? What is one way I can trust God this week that I haven’t before? Good News: I can’t make my life work on my own!
