Expectations on Fire

from Friendly Fires · host Emily Denison

Have you ever felt like you're fighting for a seat at a crowded table that is full of your own and others expectations of you? In all honesty, that phrase was almost 100% stolen from Joanna Gaines most recent book, "The Stories We Tell". But as Justin and myself had recorded this podcast and I then I went on to read a chapter from Mrs. Gaines book, I couldn't help but mesh the two. Joanna talks about her ongoing struggles with managing expectations of herself and from all those that stand around her. Isn't this the situation that most of us find ourselves in? The chapter titled "Healthy Things Grow", fit almost like a glove with the topic that I and Justin had discussed only hours earlier. Items such as where expectations start, how much power they hold, how much power we give them, and how we're allowing expectations to control how we walk through our day-to-day are all discussed in today's episode. If you're feeling this way or have additional insight into how you're best managing your own and the world's expectations, make sure to leave us a comment or reach out to either me or Justin personally!
