Expectations VS Entitlement

I’ve been seeing a lot of these, “expectations are the cause of unhappiness,” posts here lately. And while I can absolutely understand that perspective when it comes to entitlement issues, I also completely disagree with it. To each their own, but to me, expectations are important. They help you have standards. They help you set goals and help you to dream about the life you wish to create. Now, if you just sit on your ass and don’t do shit, clearly your expectations will be pointless. Butttt, if you are actually doing the work——expectations are healthy and very much needed. Expectations don’t hurt you. Not knowing yourself enough to have self awareness and subsequently choosing to expect the right things from the WRONG PEOPLE, is what makes us unhappy. NOT expectations. Having expectations is wonderful because then, you won’t want to settle for shit you don’t want. I feel we just need to know ourselves deeply, before we can have expectations of others. Once we know ourselves and what we wish to create, expectations will be natural. Choosing the right people to fulfill those expectations, however, is not so easy.. Regardless, I expect a lot. From myself. From those in my life. And from the outcome of my life. If I don’t reach those goals, I will be fine. But if I don’t TRY to give it my all TO reach those goals, I will not be fine. And so, to me, expectations are necessary and need to be refined in a healthy way that isn’t toxic or filled with self entitlement. Bye.
