Expedition

Where did you come from, babe? I wanna know I wanna go on an expedition To find all the gold you left there as a child The gold which dripped from your skin The skin you used to live in The skin you shed to take your physical form To join the walkers of the waking world To pry open oysters in search of pearls To live and to die and to stare at the sky and to kiss a few girls To suffer and to feel joy To pretend you’re a cowboy To bask in the waves and swim in the rays and to destroy To confuse and to abuse To fake your love and to read the news To see who you’d be if you lived in a city And to call a few truces to see if it reduces the need to make excuses and practice tying nooses Remember where you came from, babe And the words to your silent prayer When the time comes, you’ll save the say As long as you remember how to get there
