After surgery, I’ve had plenty of time to sit, think, and dive into fascinating cultural topics — like Brazil’s unique racial classifications known as pardas.Since the 1940s, Brazilians have been able to describe their race in their own words on the census, leading to over 100 different terms — some serious, some downright hilarious. From Amarela (yellow) to Burro-cuando-poje (yes, that’s "disappearing donkey"), these categories reveal Brazil’s complex history of identity and diversity.In this video, I share a few of my favorites and invite you to help me understand them better.
