Journey through England’s historic colleges exploring education, libraries, heritage, and global connections shaped by years of learning.

This episode of Big Blend Radio’s "English Connection" Podcast explores the enduring power of education through England’s ancient colleges and universities—places where history, culture, libraries, and global connections intersect. Historian, tour guide, and Norfolk Tours owner Glynn Burrows reflects on how universities have long served as centers of learning, inspiration, and cultural exchange, shaping societies far beyond their walls.

The conversation highlights how historic universities preserve knowledge through libraries and archives, support genealogy and family history research, and foster lifelong learning across generations. From public lectures and community events to gardens, architecture, and centuries-old traditions, these academic institutions are revealed as living heritage sites—places to visit, explore, and experience firsthand.

The episode also examines access to education around the world, the social fabric of university life, and the value of experiential learning, showing how education connects people globally while remaining deeply rooted in local history. Whether viewed through the lens of scholarship, travel, or cultural curiosity, England’s ancient colleges continue to inspire discovery, reflection, and connection.

The Big Red Podcast Jeremy Olmo Welcome! I am Jeremy and you have tripped into my world where I will tackle all sorts of topics pertaining to our daily lives and my opinions about making life a little bit better. I will be aiming to post 2 episode a week with Fridays being reserved for what I'm going to call a "Grab Bag" day. This is going to be where I talk about a random topic. The show will be less structured and more free form, a bit more relaxed and where I may bring a guest on the show to add to the banter!**WARNING** FRIDAY'S MAY CONTAIN EXPLICIT LANGUAGE AND CONTENT!!! 2 B R 0 2 B (version 2) & The Big Trip Up Yonder (version 5) by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Loyal Books These two stories by Kurt Vonnegut were written over a decade apart but they are definitely connected. The Big Trip Up Yonder, published in Galaxy Science Fiction January 1954 is a comical yet scary description of what over population was going to do to society after aging was conquered and a simple daily dose of "anti-gerosone" would keep you forever the same age. Would Gramps EVER take 'That Big Trip Up Yonder', or would his hordes of descendants be stuck with him forever in a tiny apartment!? 2 B R 0 2 B, published in Worlds of If, January 1962 takes this basic situation many years into the future and a solution has been found. The population of the US has dropped from 80 billion to 40 million. Not what everyone would call a pretty solution, or the best solution, but nevertheless a solution to the population problem. I believe this is the type of story it is best to listen to, not describe, so enjoy. No Silly Questions The Daily Aus We have a massive federal election coming up.
