Exploring STEM: From Streams to Solutions

Today is all about STEM, as we dig into the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM encompasses a range of academic disciplines and careers focused on understanding the natural world, developing new technologies and solving complex problems.Our guests are part of the exciting field that fosters critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills, essential for addressing global challenges – and drives innovation and economic growth.First, we have Dr. Andy Turner, a professor of biology, earth and environmental science at the PennWest Clarion campus. He has been conducting field research on northwestern Pennsylvania’s lakes and streams for 25 years and has long been involved in the restoration of local streams that were destroyed by acid mine drainage.Dr. Kimberly Woznack is a distinguished professor in the chemistry and physics department at PennWest California. She is a passionate advocate for women in STEM, currently serving as the chair of the American Chemical Society’s Women Chemists Committee. In addition to her academic and advocacy roles, Dr. Woznack is a mother of two and has shared her experiences in the book “Mom the Chemistry Professor.” Her work highlights the challenges and rewards of balancing motherhood with an academic career in chemistryFinally, we have Morgan Wissner, who is majoring in actuarial science and mathematics at the Edinboro campus. During her time at Edinboro, she’s excelled in the classroom and on the soccer field – earning PSAC West Player of the Week in her freshman season. She eventually joined the coaching staff as a student-assistant where she earned the Senior Leadership Award. After she passed her first actuarial science exam, she plans to join a financial solutions firm as an actuary.
