Friedrich Merz heeft zijn CDU/CSU aan de verkiezingszege in Duitsland geholpen. Met bijna dertig procent is de partij de helft groter dan die andere grote winnaar, de AfD. Die haalt twintig procent. Voor bondskanselier Scholz zijn de verkiezingen uitgedraaid op een deceptie. De SPD leidt een recordverlies met 16 procent. Waar de Groenen van Robert Habeck zich handhaven met dertien procent bungelt de liberale FDP rond de kiesdrempel van vijf procent. Dat geldt ook voor Sahra Wagenknecht met haar partij BSW. Opvallende winnaar zijn de socialisten van Die Linke. Zij behalen 8,5 procent ruim drie procentpunt meer dan in 2021.
