Eye-Witness Accounts of Guadalupe "Crime Suppression Sweeps"

from Desert Politics · host Todd Landfried

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has held self-described "Crime Suppression Sweeps" in Maricopa County over each of the last three weeks. While most of the media coverage from last weekend's (April 4-5, 2008) "sweep" in Guadalupe covered the story from the Sheriff's perspective, there was scant coverage of the people in this community of one-square mile who had to deal with 200 deputies, the bomb squad and posse as well as the media pulling over anyone for the most petty of offenses. Local businessman Jason LaVecke and activist/videographer Dennis Gillman join program host Todd Landfried to discuss what they witnessed that weekend and what it means to the community and the county.
