Ezekiel 02: Strong All by Yourself

from The Bible Breakdown: Daily Bible Reading · host Brandon Cannon

Ezekiel Chapter 2 introduces us to one of the Old Testament's most fascinating characters – a prophet who might not be everyone's best friend, but would certainly be the life of the party. Pastor Brandon takes us deep into the calling of this extraordinary man of God, sent to speak divine truth to a rebellious nation in exile.Through this chapter, we discover God's honest assessment of His people – stubborn, hard-hearted, and rebellious – and yet His persistent desire to communicate with them. Ezekiel receives a sobering commission: speak God's word regardless of how it's received. "Whether they listen or refuse to listen... at least they will know that a prophet has been among them."The discussion clarifies a crucial biblical distinction between God addressing Ezekiel as "son of man" (essentially, "hey human") and Jesus' later self-designation as "the Son of Man" referencing Daniel's messianic prophecy. This insight helps us better understand both Ezekiel's humanity and Christ's divine identity. Most powerfully, the episode challenges us to examine our own rebellious tendencies. Many Christians gladly accept Jesus as Savior but resist His lordship – we want Him as co-pilot while keeping our hands on the wheel. Pastor Brandon asks the penetrating question: "If the people you work with found out you were a Christian, would they be surprised?" God's call to Ezekiel becomes our call today – to live distinctively as believers, demonstrating His presence through our lives whether others embrace our message or not.Ready to make Ezekiel one of your favorite Old Testament characters?
