Ezra 7:10 “Ezra, the Resurrection, and Us…”

from Sunday Bible Study at Calvary Chapel Fort Walton Beach · host Andy Falleur

Pastor Andy connects Ezra 7 to Easter Sunday by showing how Ezra's life foreshadows Jesus. Ezra was born in captivity, a descendant from the high priestly line, and skilled in Scripture. He had the hand of God upon him and had to make the same costly choice every believer faces: trust God at His Word even when it feels like dying... or live like everyone else. The Israelites faced the same choice in Ezra 10. Jesus walked the same path all the way to the cross, except His pedigree was infinitely greater and He rose from the dead. To illustrate the transforming power of this pattern, Pastor Andy recounts the story of John Wesley, who stepped into the moral catastrophe of 18th-century Britain and, through 52 years of open-air Bible preaching, transformed an entire civilization. This can be traced later to abolishing slavery, ending lawlessness, and preventing a bloody revolution. The Bible, opened and taught, amounts to a civilization finding its soul. The same is true for every individual who chooses to die to self and receive Jesus Christ on Resurrection Sunday.Scripture References:Ezra 7:10Ezra 7:1-6 Ezra 8:21-23Ezra 10:2-4John 5:391 Corinthians 7Romans 8:11Topics and Keywords:Ezra's pedigree, calling, and missionPreparing your heart to seek, do, and teach God's WordThe sequence: knowledge of God → study of Scripture → costly choice to obeyEzra foreshadowing Jesus — only betterThe way of life looks like death, the way of death looks like lifeDying to self and receiving Jesus ChristThe resurrection as the most documented fact in human historyJohn Wesley and the transformation of British societyThe Bible restoring the soul of a civilizationVishal Mangalwadi — The Book That Made Your WorldThe choice every person faces on Easter SundayHumility, prayer, and asking God for help
