Facebook Debacle

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Facebook allowed a researcher from political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica — which worked on United States President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign — to use data collected from 50 million users without their consent. Meanwhile, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) confirmed on Monday that it had officially opened an investigation into Facebook following the privacy scandal. The current investigation will aim to determine whether or not Facebook violated a 2011 consent decree that it signed promising stronger privacy practices. This incident has raised a number of concerns and questions which we hope can be answered on the show.Joining us for this conversation is:• Palesa Madumo is Vuma Reputation Agency Executive Director of Strategy • Dr Colin Thakur is Director at E-Skills Lab• Toby Shapshack is ICT Journalist
