Facial Recognition System Being Tested at Taoyuan Airport

from News For Kids · host ICRT

I like to travel, but I hate how long it takes at the airport sometimes. There are so many people and it takes so long to show your passport and paperwork. Well, hopefully there won't be any more long lines at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Because they are starting to try out their new "One ID" facial recognition system. This system is designed to try to make lines move along a little bit faster. With this new system, airport officials won't have to spend time looking through passports and documents… The One ID system can scan people's faces, which makes everything go a lot faster. When a machine scans your face, it makes a map of it. No one has the same face, so every map is different, and that's how the machine knows it is you when it sees your face! With the One ID system, travelers can go directly from getting their boarding passes to getting on the plane, and all they need to do in between is get their face scanned! I'm glad they're trying out this new system, it should make getting through the airport a lot faster and a lot less stressful! That's convenient! ________________________________ Vocabulary 機場人臉辨識系統,可以減少排隊。 1. I hate waiting in a long line. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
