Welcome to the Podcast! Today Pastor Rob Ayer is teaching about some of the Challenges The people of Jerusalem faced To recap: The returning exiles rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem. They – and many of their fellow Israelites/Jews – by lot and by choice – resettled the Holy City. They built homes and rebuilt businesses. And they reestablished their life of worship. Now – they were ready for Nehemiah's final reforms… Chp. 13 of the book of Nehemiah – its last – begins with a reading from the Pentateuch – the first five books of the O.T. as we would understand it – and then specifically from the Book of Deuteronomy which includes this command in chp. 23… SLIDE 2. No Ammonite or Moabite or any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, even down to the tenth generation (Deut. 3:23). And then – when the people heard this law… SLIDE 3. …they excluded from Israel all who were of foreign descent (Neh. 13:3). Hmm. To our modern, out-of-context ear – that might sound super un-inclusive, maybe even racist. So, here's some context…
