Facing Today’s Darkness with Christ-like Wisdom

In this week’s episode of The Christ Project Podcast, I’m thrilled to welcome Rev. Scott Sammler-Michael, Senior Co-Minister of UUCM in Montclair, NJ, as we explore themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and the transformative power of Christ’s teachings. Our conversation begins with an examination of the historical exile of Jesus the Christ through the Nicene Creed—a doctrine created in 325 AD to align Christianity with the Roman Empire's political goals. This shift distanced the Church from the gnostic wisdom of love, unity, and enlightenment at the heart of Jesus’s teachings during his brief ministry around the Sea of Galilee. Facing Today’s Darkness with Christlike Wisdom Rev. Scott confronts the troubling rhetoric and behavior that have emerged following recent political events in the United States. Highlighting the words of the president-elect’s supporters, Rev. Scott reflects on how such thirst and lust for vengeance are fundamentally opposed to Christ’s teachings. He reminds us: "That is not Christ-like. By definition, it is not Christ-like." This critical lens serves as a reminder of how far public discourse can drift from the core values of compassion, love, and justice. In response, Kintu draws on the Beatitudes, offering insight into their deeper, often misunderstood meaning. Reflecting on the teaching, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,” Kintu explains how “righteousness” in its original context meant far more than personal virtue or adherence to religious creeds.  Instead, it referred to a profound thirst and yearning to connect with the divine—to be in alignment with the vibration of God. This wisdom interpretation challenges us to embody Christ-like values in a way that transcends dogma and division.
