Fairly KickAss Podcast - Were We Too Hard On... Metallica's St. Anger?

from The Fairly KickAss Podcast · host Fairly KickAss

Welcome to a new Fairly KickAss Original! We're calling this one Were We Too Hard On... and for once, it doesn't need a book's worth of explanation! Lemme explain. We take a thing that we (and many others) were too hard on, and we figure out if that was fair. Were we jaded by certain factors? Did we not appreciate the thing as much then as we do now? Maybe we had a bad sandwich that day. It happens! Not all sandwiches are good. Either way, our job is to figure out if the initial assessment still fits. And this episode is a doozy: from the donk-donk-donk, to the rough-around-the-edges vocals and lyrics, to the long lengths of each song, the Metallica album St. Anger has not been seen in a positive light too often. (Pitchfork saying that the guitars "underwent more processing than cat food" was a particular favorite critique.) Listen to find out how Dan and Zack feel about this 21 year old album! And while you're at it, pop in for a visit to any or all of the offerings from our Social Meadery: Twitter: https://twitter.com/fairlykickassInstagram: https://instagram.com/fairlykickassTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@fairlykickassThreads: https://www.threads.net/@fairlykickassNext week: Vituperation! Opprobrium! Upbraiding! Billingsgate! I don't think that these are real words, regardless of what Thesaurus.com says. But if we're believing those Thesaurus chaps, then those terms essentially boil down to saying mean things about someone... and we're gonna have a LOT of examples of that to talk about. It's The Rush: Diss Tracks! Get your bowl of popcorn ready. Until then, we hope that you always stay ready to Keep. Kicking. Ass.
