Adam was formed in full masculinity and then He built the woman for Adam.  God's intention for marriage is to procreate and build families and Adam could not do that alone. God removed a specific bone from Adam in which he used to build Eve. The bone that we refer to as a rib in the Hebrew has a different meaning; it is not a literal rib.
