This favoritism, or prosopolepsia, is defined as making unjust distinctions by treating certain individuals better than others based on social or economic status, a practice that causes division within the body of Christ. Such conduct is a direct violation of Christ’s character, as the sources emphasize that "there is no partiality with God" and that the church should be a "renewal" where worldly distinctions between slave and free are abolished. Through the "Tale of two men," James illustrates the "evil reasoning" of those who offer preferential treatment to the affluent while relegating the poor to a footstool, effectively turning themselves into "judges with evil thoughts". Ultimately, James challenges the church to ensure its conduct aligns with its profession, reflecting the holiness of a Lord who washed His disciples' feet rather than the discriminatory hierarchies of the world.
