The Revd Dr John Salmon, past President of the Methodist Church in New Zealand, was the guest preacher and celebrant at St Matthew-in-the-City, Auckland on Bible Sunday, 19 July 2009. In his sermon he noted that after the 4th century being being a Christian was determined by right belief in church doctrine. Before that Christianity was not about religion but spirituality.
