Falls Church School Board Work Session - August 26, 2025

The FCCPS School Board held their first work session of the academic year Tuesday evening, addressing several key initiatives:IB Program Evaluation: Our district will undergo its five-year International Baccalaureate evaluation in February 2026. A visiting team of IB experts will assess all five schools from February 9-13, meeting with students, teachers, parents, and board members. Recent highlights include over 6,200 students earning national service awards and FCCPS receiving one of only six national gold ribbon recognitions for service learning excellence.AI Policy Development: The Board is establishing an ad hoc committee to develop artificial intelligence policies for the district. The committee will include community experts, staff, and student representatives to address both educational use and academic integrity concerns.Public Transportation Study: The Board is exploring partnerships with local transit to provide students additional transportation options, particularly for after-school activities. Student interest surveys and city council discussions will inform next steps.Band Room Naming: The Board approved proceeding with honorary naming of the band room for Mary Jo West, who taught music in FCCPS for 29 years.The next regular School Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2025, where official enrollment numbers will be shared.
