A track I was introduced to by ADRIAN EVANS back in 1992. I have not heard the song since but periodically sing it from time to time. Now, I have decided to record it. It is slightly different to the traditional folk but hopefully has the same heart. I don't expect anyone to know this song or to like it or to share it as it is such a unique folk song that only true folk lovers will understand - enjoy FALSE FALSE False, false have you been to me, my love Oh, when did you change your mind? It came 14 years after Twain's death and so, "speaking from the grave", he felt he could be "as frank and free and unembarrassed as a love letter". The autobiographical chapters that he published years earlier in the North American Review, were selected more for their acceptability and potential popularity than for their completely true reflection of his inner thoughts. With the publication of Mark Twain's Autobiography in 1924, the world was introduced to a much more frank and less restrained Twain than had heretofore been seen or heard. At the same time as the murder, at least ten people saw Toforest Johnson four miles away, at a popular nightclub called Tee's Place. But detectives zeroed in on him as a main suspect in Deputy Hardy’s murder anyway, ultimately resulting in Toforest being tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. For over a quarter century, Toforest has been confined to a 5’ by 8’ cell on Alabama’s death row.In 2019, investigative journalist Beth Shelburne began covering the case, going down a disturbing rabbit hole revealing many unsettling facts that cast grave doubts about Toforest’s guilt.
