False Spring & Feral Things - Surrounded by Wolves
from Furthermost Outpost Hosted by Arön and Jennifer Toland - Off Grid Wilderness Hosts.
Off‑grid living, winter preparations, fire mitigation, Jeep maintenance, climate change, long supply runs, and surrounded by wolves—this episode dives headfirst into the wild reality of building a life far from the grid. With an unseasonably warm winter throwing everything off balance, the hosts unpack how “false spring” messes with gardening plans, fire‑safety priorities, and even the behavior of the wolves that are treading close. Planning a supply run that has to last months is no small feat—it’s daunting, exhausting, expensive, and requires military‑level logistics when rivers and creeks break loose from a false Spring. Aron heads out before dawn in a 4x4 Jeep - towing a trailer that needs to be checked, re‑checked, and then checked again, while Jennifer stays behind to manage the wilderness resort solo in wolf country. It’s equal parts grit, humor, and “hope for the best, prepare for the worst.” From chainsawing chunks of ice at odd angles to tackling home‑build projects, prepping garden beds, and relying on Starlink to stay connected, this conversation captures the unpredictable, often absurd, always rewarding rhythm of wilderness life. If you’ve ever wondered what it really takes to thrive off the grid—or you just want to hear two people laugh their way through the chaos—this episode delivers.
