Families of 2016 Lily Mine disaster victims call for arrest of CEO of Vantage Gold Fields, Mike McChesney

from Radio 2000 Mixes · host Radio 2000

Two months ago, the Nelspruit Magistrate's court in Mpumalanga found that illegal mining was the primary cause of the collapse of the Lily Mine in 2016. The court also found that three workers who were trapped underground  - Pretty Nkambule, Yvonne Mnisi, and Solomon Nyirenda - died instantly when the mine caved in. This comes after an inquest was established to determine if the three were indeed deceased, and whether anyone should be held responsible for their deaths. Mthobisi Mkhaliphi filed this report on how the families of the victims have been coping, seven years after the incident.
