Matthew 1:1-17 NLT Premise You are currently standing in between two generations with the holy responsibility of safeguarding, cultivating, and preserving what came from those before you while managing, maintaining, and building what you are passing on to those who will come after you. HIStory must continue because Family MATTERS. Scriptural insight 1. Honoring upward is more for your sake than it is for those you are honoring. Your wellbeing and longevity is tied to how well you honor. Without the proper honor of those who came before you the present and future is in jeopardy. “‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 5:16 NKJV “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.””Ephesians 6:1-3 NKJV 2. Protecting those after you looks like positioning yourself correctly for God to be glorified in them rather than them being terrified because of what is coming out of you. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”” Ephesians 6:1-3 NKJV 3. There is a planned visitation that your life is currently setting up. Your obedience ensures mercy, provokes forgiveness, and establishes grace. Disobedience calls for the inheritance of those who come after you to be spoiled. “And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”” Exodus 34:6-7 NKJV
