We see this text broken into four sections: the parable of the sower, Jesus’ reason for speaking in parables and explanation of the parable of the sower, the parable of a lamp under a jar, and Jesus’ mother and brothers. These four sections all point to different aspects of our response to the hearing of God’s Word.
