We may hold dear to something that we deem very important. Maybe it has sentimental value to us, but if someone else happened upon it, they would view it as unimportant or insignificant. This was the same in Jesus' times. Many viewed children as a hindrance. Yet God, in His love and compassion, held children dear to His heart.
