Family Transformation: Covenant

from Victory Church Jbay · host Drummond Robinson

And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the Lord.Hosea 2:19-20 (ESV)This week we will be looking at the word that Pastor Drummond Robinson shared on Sunday continuing the series on Family Transformation, entitled, ‘Covenant’.Firstly, we need to understand the difference between a covenant and a contract. We live in a world filled with contracts, but marriage is not a contract. It is a covenant, just like our marriage with Jesus Christ. Contracts are temporary agreements that are based on performance. A covenant is an irrevocable, unconditional, sacrificial commitment that is valid for life.Secondly, we must make sure that we have values in place for our marriages, and all of our relationships. Ps Drummond shared seven ideas that can act as a ‘constitution’ for what is acceptable and what is not in our homes: God First, Mercy, Honour, Faithfulness, Friendship, Gentleness and a Safe Place. We need to set our ‘constitution’ in place and keep it on our mind constantly so that it becomes second nature so that it can help us create strong, healthy relationships and ultimately, covenant marriages.Do your relationships, especially your marriage, look more like a contract or a covenant? What are the words that are in your ‘constitution’?In which relationships do you need to establish these words?
